Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts – Volume 1 review by Bobby Blakey
There are few cartoon characters or even characters in general as iconic as Mickey Mouse. Throughout his history there have been numerous looks and changes to his design leading up to the most current version being used, which is my favorite despite that not being the popular choice. Now Disney is celebrating its 100th anniversary and what better way than to bring the mouse that started it all together with the love of his life in one fun collection the Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts: Volume 1.
In this collectible compilation of animated shorts, Mickey and Minnie share their memories in new introductions to these 10 wonderful stories, which have entertained generations of children and adults alike. Included is the iconic "Steamboat Willie," the first cartoon with synchronized sound, in which the character of Mickey Mouse was first introduced as a deckhand on a riverboat commanded by the tyrannical Captain Pete. Also included are "Brave Little Tailor," featuring Mickey as a medieval tailor given a daunting task. In "Mickey’s Delayed Date," the tardy mouse relies on his faithful pup Pluto to get him to a dance with Minnie. "Hawaiian Holiday" finds Mickey and his pals vacationing on a beautiful island. Then along with friends, Mickey and Minnie glide through a romantic date on a frozen river in "On
Ice." And catch five more delightful stories in this legacy collection.
The cartoons themselves need no review as they have been around forever and seen by most, but this latest release looks the best it has in a long time. They have been restored to greatness and each and every one looks as beautiful as ever. The fun new addition is the connection narration over a scrap book of Mickey and Minnie sharing their memories leading into each fun story. I love getting to look back at these cartoons for not only the iconic and entertaining nature of them, but the evolution of the character throughout.
This is a simple yet beautiful collection that is great for hardcore fans as well as those just discovering or getting to see some of them for the first time. With the volume labeling this can only mean there are more to come and I hope they come up with a different theme for each but keep this format as it does make it a lot more fun to watch them all in sort of a movie compilation of sorts in this way.
Young or old this is a must have collection for anyone that is a fan of the all-powerful mouse so be to grab your copy of Mickey & Minnie 10 Classic Shorts: Volume 1 available now on digital, Blu-ray and DVD from Disney Home Entertainment
