TV series making the transition to the big screen has been all the rage for years, but more often than not they fall flat. When Tom Cruise teamed up with Brian De Palma to bring Mission Impossible to the big screen in 1996 no one could have imagined that it would still be going strong today. With the seventh entry into the franchise scheduled to hit theaters in 2022 what better time to celebrate where it all began with Mission Impossible 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Blu-ray.

Mission Impossible follows top-secret agent Ethan Hunt who is framed for the deaths of his espionage team. Fleeing from government assassins, breaking into the CIA's most impenetrable vault, clinging to the roof of a speeding bullet train, Hunt races like a burning fuse to stay one step ahead of his pursuers...and draw one step closer to discovering the shocking truth.

This was a big gamble since TV to film remakes rarely worked, but thanks to an engaging mystery some good action and the perfect casting of Cruise it stood out. I was never a huge fan of this first film as it felt a bit slow to me, but upon revisiting it I found it to have a great story that worked well, but we are just spoiled now with the over the top action. There are plenty of fun action moments, but this film plays up the espionage side with plenty of

twists and turns to create something that clearly went onto be one of the best action franchises of all time.

I honestly have never thought this would be such a long running and awesome franchise like it has become when I saw the original in theaters. Going back through it this different vibe it has than the later entries makes it a welcome one to revisit and see what helped to make it something worthy of building this universe around. It still stands alone as a great spy thriller that pays respect to the source material while being its own thing to perfection.

The remastered edition looks great and brings this original entry into the popular franchise to a higher level on Blu-ray than ever before. This release offers up all the same previous bonus features including a photo gallery, trailer gallery, featurettes and so much more.
