Murder Mystery 2         review by Bobby Blakey

In 2019 Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston teamed up for the second time for the action comedy Murder Mystery for Netflix. The film was a hit and really entertaining and the perfect format for a sequel. Now they are back once again with Murder Mystery 2 with a great supporting cast including Mark Strong, Jodie-Turner Smith, Adeel Akhtar, Melanie Laurent, John Kani, Kuhoo Verma, Dany Boon, Jillian Bell, and Tony Goldwyn with The Ringer and The Break-Up director Jeremy Garelick at the helm. Could this be another fun mystery worth solving or will it fail to be a case worth looking into?

Murder Mystery 2 follows four years after solving their first murder mystery, Nick and Audrey Spitz are now full-time detectives struggling to get their private eye agency off the ground when they’re invited to celebrate the wedding of their friend the Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) on his private island. But trouble follows the Spitzes again when the groom is kidnapped for ransom soon after the festivities begin — making each glamorous guest, family member, and the bride herself a suspect, it sends Nick and Audrey Spitz on a high-stakes case that finally gives them everything they’ve ever dreamed of: a shot at their detective agency finally becoming successful…and their long-awaited trip to Paris.

The first film was the perfect set up for this duo and a great time. The execution was not only well done, but offered up a fun whodunit that keeps you guessing while laughing throughout. The ending to the first film had a funny set up that was perfect to take us on another case or leave it as a great cap to the flick, but thankfully they decided to dive right back in. This film picks up initially where the previous film left off and then gives a brief recap before letting us know where they are now setting the stage for not only this film but possible future opportunities as well.

I love this concept, but was concerned if they would be able to match the fun of the previous film, but they did just that. They brought together a fun

new cast complete with some return members from the first film to keep the fun alive. It works well despite being ridiculous throughout, but that is kind of the tone it goes for while still making it relatable and fun to watch. They did step up the action a bit here complete with Sandler actually getting to go toe to toe in some fights and handles himself well.

Everyone is fun to watch here, but it’s the great chemistry between Sandler and Aniston that makes it work. Their real life close friendship shines through making them really entertaining and believable as a couple. Sure it’s over the top and convenient at times, but it knows what it is and leans all the way in which makes it work. I hope this one does as well as the first and gives us a chance to see these two solving some more cases in the furture that just keep getting bigger and sillier every time. If not th3ese are both worth checking out more than once.

Join the case when Murder Mystery 2 streams exclusively on March 31st on Netflix.
