While Well Go USA is known for bringing the best martial arts epics from all over the world to the states, they have also delivered some great horror films as well. In 2016 they brought awesome the zombie flick Train to Busan to the US and now the studio that brought that film to life is diving back into mixing the world of martial arts and zombie together with Rampant. Could this latest Well Go USA release offer up more of the same blood filled fun as their other flicks or will it fail to rise to life?

Rampant follows ancient Korea where a darkness looms as murderous creatures known as Night Demons have overrun the country. Returning from a long imprisonment abroad, Prince Ganglim discovers that it will take the strength of his entire kingdom to stop the bloody rampage spreading across the nation. Going in I wasn’t sure what to expect and where they were taking this story, but I am happy to say it delivers. There are so many great epic fight against the undead sequences that blend martial arts sword play along with the horrors of the zombie genre. The story is simple, but filled with layers that extend past the fight against just the undead and across the rule of the kingdom itself.

As the film progresses it plays like most of the popular Asian epics, but then takes numerous dark and bloody turns as it infuses these horror elements. They did a good job of creating some great diseased zombies of sorts that are simplistic yet effective. The set pieces and costuming perfectly captures the time and gives a story that could have been just another zombie flick an infusion of freshness that elevates it to something much bigger.

I really loved this movie and although it didn’t have much straight forward martial arts that I had hoped for it was still excellent and a must see for fans of the genre. Step into the battle against the undead and grab your copy of Rampant available now from Well GO USA.
