Director Antoine Fuqua is one of my favorite directors and has churned out some great flicks including The Replacement Killers, Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, The Equalizer and so many more. In 2007 he teamed up with Mark Wahlberg for the action flick Shooter. The film features a great cast including Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Danny Glover, Ned Beatty, Elias Koteas, Rhona Mitra, Lane Garrison and Levon Helm. Now the film is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a first time 4K release, but does the film hold up or will it fail to hit its target?

Shooter follows a respected former Marine sniper who is pressed into service to stop an assassination attempt on the President.  When he’s double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must prove his innocence while evading every law enforcement agency in the country and a shadowy organization that wants him dead.

I haven’t seen this film since it came out so to be honest remember liking it, but not much about it. Diving back in was a real treat and really dug this flick all over again. The film is a pretty straight actioner with some great twists and turns, but nothing that is overally shocking. Instead it just relies on the action set pieces and straight forward story to drive it and it works well.

Wahlberg is always great in this kind of role. I remember after re-watching it that it needed a sequel, but sadly it never happened and instead got a TV series adaptation. This film has some minor issues in some of the plot, but doesn’t hinder it doing what it is trying to accomplish.

Filled with great action and a decent government betrayal conspiracy plot,

this film fills that action need for the fans. This new 4K release looks great and worth adding to your collection complete with bonus content including deleted scenes, featurettes and more.

Grab your copy of Shooter available now for the first time on 4K Ultra HD in a Limited-Edition Steel Book from Paramount.
