 The Lesson

review by Bobby Blakey

I love horror films and even more so when it involves someone that loses it from being pushed to the edge. The latest from Shout Factory, the Lesson brings that exact idea to life with a cool twist, but does it manage to pull it off or will it be a lesson not worth learning?

The Lesson follows two schoolboy delinquents that learn a lesson that they will never forget when a teacher at the end of his tether decides to abduct them. This is one of those films that offers up some great bloody fun, but takes a bit to finally deliver. The first half of the film is a bit annoying by design as you watch these kids torment the teacher. The issue is that you just don’t really care all that much to what is going on and it is all over the place. Thankfully it does make you hate these annoying characters so much that when revenge is thrust on them you are glad to see it unfold. I loved the idea of the teacher getting revenge, but was hoping for a bit more overall. Thankfully he did ham it up using the teacher student dynamic as a focal point and it delivers some crazy gory fun moments. Once the craziness starts it is actually pretty fun to watch, complete with a cool twist midway through, but I was pretty unhappy with the ending as it went pretty clichéd and missed a great opportunity.

If you are a horror flick then you should check out this fun flick as you will likely have a good time. There isn’t anything overly original here, but it does play up the cheese and fun allowing the blood to flow and the overacting to take center stage in a great way. Get in on this horrific session with The Lesson available not on Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand from Shout Factory.
