The Strain: Season 4              review by Bobby Blakey

In 2014 The Strain debuted based off the novel series of the same name from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan creating an interesting take on the world of vampires. Now its final fourth season is here and fans can bring it home with The Strain: The Complete Fourth Season.

In  the  final episodes  of  the series nuclear  winter  envelopes  the  planet  and  a  desperate,  weakened  humanity —existing only as slave labor for “The Partnership” —is  controlled  by  the  bloodthirsty  strigoi.  Meanwhile, the sinister “Master” grooms Eph’s son Zack to rule the post-apocalyptic dystopia. With nothing left to lose, Eph and a tiny group of survivors plot to defeat The Master and save what’s left of humanity —and the planet —in this adrenaline-fueled adventure that culminates in one of the most shocking sequences in the groundbreaking series. Much like the third season this one was a lot more focused than the first two of the series. I really dug the direction this season as it not only shook things up, but finally felt like it was really building to something, when they were, as opposed to just the nonstop vampire creature attacks.

The continued unexpected alliances offered up a more balance of power and in turn some great action moments. There are some great kills here that showcase some awesome effects and creativity that sets this show apart all its own. Knowing that this is the final season they were able to ditch some of the story elements that were a bit lagging and move forward with full speed. Everything this season builds to the ultimate finale that works on every way. Every aspect got its closure with some great sacrifices and action throughout. Not to forget anyone we even got some deep backstory for Quinlan that takes the already coolest character of the series in a great new direction before cutting him loose for the great finale to the series. There is a great closure to the overall series that was satisfying for all the characters all while upping the gore and insanity throughout this great final season.
