I love a good heist film, but at this point in the genre it is more about how they pull it off. The latest Widows features a great cast including Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Garret Dillahunt, Carrie Coon, Jacki Weaver, Jon Bernthal, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo with Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson with 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen at the helm. Could this be the one that is bringing that something special to the game or will it fail to make the big score?

Widows follows the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. This film has such a great cast it is hard to imagine that it could not have worked and thankfully it does very well. To my surprise the heist itself isn’t overly exciting, but instead all the lead up and aftermath is where it shines.

The cast are all great here, but this show belongs to the ladies and each of them brings a strong presence and power to their roles without trying to make them sudden master thieves. Some of the best scenes here are watching them trying to figure it all out and train for it. It’s the little things that make for the best details to bring a story like this together. There are a ton of great character moments across the board along with some interesting twists that keep you guessing right up until the very end. Sure there are elements that some might find predictable, but it still works and feels satisfying when it is all said and done.

This film didn’t offer up the intense action and hyped up heist moments I had hoped, but still captured the essence to the story they were telling and keeps you invested throughout. With such a great cast and excellent story this is a must watch for anyone that loves the genre or anyone in it.

In addition to the film this release includes bonus content including a gallery and featurettes that take you behind bringing this film to life. Join the heist and grab your copy of Widows available now on 4K Ultra, Blu-ray and DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
