Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II review by Bobby Blakey

In 2022 the iconic character Winnie The Pooh and friends entered the public domain so it wasn’t long before the fun began. The most outrageous use of the character came in the slasher reimagining of the classic characters with Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey from director Rhys Frake-Waterfield in 2023. The film was a cult hit and has now spawned the new Twisted Childhood Universe that is bringing other famed characters to the horror genre. First up is a return to the 100 Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II starring Scott Chambers, Ryan Olivia, Lewis Santer, Eddy MacKenzie, and Marcus Mansey. Could this latest chapter bring more of the same fun carnage or will become too much of a bother?
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II follow deep within the Hundred Acre Wood where a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin revealed their existence. Not wanting to live in the shadows any longer, the group decides to take the fight to Christopher's hometown of Ashdown, leaving a bloody trail of death and mayhem in their wake. Winnie and his savage friends will show everyone that they are deadlier, stronger, and smarter than anyone could ever imagine ... and get their revenge on Christopher Robin once and for all.
I had my reservations, but I ended up loving the first film in all its ridiculous gory glory. The story was perfect to set up this twisted tale and weaved into a slasher flick in the vein of Texas Chainsaw or Friday the 13th to great fun. Obviously, you have to be willing to go all in with it and accept the lower budget on some elements for it to really resonate. This means I was even more excited to see this next chapter, but from the cover art alone you can see some changes to the looks and even the casting of Christopher with
Chambers replacing Nikolai Leon from the first film. This made me a bit worried about how it was going to work but have no fear it works even better this time around.
Through some clever meta story telling they explain everything different between the first film and this one. Pooh and his friends look so much better this time around which is obviously thanks to a larger budget, but with this element of the story just makes it work better and allows them to evolve the characters into more ferocious killers than before. The story outside of this expands the universe and the history of them all, no longer relying on the storybook element of the narrative and just run free.
The tone here felt more like Halloween in the way they set up the kills and terror with it once again working perfectly with Pooh stalking his victims like Michael Myers. There are a ton of great bloody kills that will no doubt please all the gore hounds out there and does the genre justice further solidifying this franchise as the real deal. It’s no hard to figure out some of the big reveals this time around when it gets closer to the finale, but its still a bloody good time from beginning to end.
There is a mid-credit sequence that further sets up the future of Pooh and friends for the already in development third film and the bigger universe with the other upcoming characters coming together for Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble. (You can get more info on our article here.)
